The Art of Sacred Smudging and Wellness

For thousands of years, around the world, a variety of spiritual groups have taken up the practice of burning dried herbs and plants for spiritual and medicinal purposes. The smoke from the herbs is believed to allow the transition between the physical and the spiritual planes.

Sacred smudges are inherently associated with the rituals of the Native Americans. Tightly bound bundles of carefully selected dried herbs are burned in a dish or more traditionally an Abalone shell. The sacred smoke is then released into the atmosphere where it is used to cleanse, purify and attract energies for a variety of purposes such as removing unwanted negativity or to help focus on a desired dream or a personal goal.

Nowadays, more and more people are starting to recognise and understand the benefits of smudging and are starting to incorporate it into their daily mediations to help with wellbeing and mindfulness.

They can also be used to simply scent a room. Just light the end of the smudge, leave for a few seconds, blow out and leave to burn for 5-10 minutes. The beautiful natural aroma of the herbs will leave a long-lasting sweet fragrance.
